Scholarship Support

The Heinz School strives to make a graduate education accessible to talented students through numerous scholarship opportunities. In fact, approximately 85% of full-time students receive some form of scholarship support.

The Heinz School Financial Aid Office Mission Statement

The mission of the Heinz School Financial Aid Office is to guide and assist students in securing the financial means to pursue higher education. We will strive to do so in a respectful, confidential, and comfortable environment where students know they will be assisted by friendly, courteous, and understanding staff. We will seek new knowledge so that we can provide students with accurate, up-to-date information about financial options. We will educate students about their financial rights and responsibilities to enable them to make informed decisions about their educational funding and to encourage responsible borrowing and repayment practices. We will provide quality, timely, and individual attention and will always act in the best interest of the student in accordance with federal regulations and institutional policies.

You are encouraged to apply early for financial aid, since funding is limited. If you have questions, please contact us by phone, mail, or email (contact information is below). We can guide you through the financial aid process and provide you with the resources you need to make informed decisions on financing the quality education you will receive at the Heinz School.

Internship Support Funding

The College of Fine Arts and Heinz School established the MAM Internship Support Fund (ISF) in recognition of the fact that many not-for-profit arts and cultural organizations do not provide any significant remuneration for those serving as interns. The MAM Program is eager for you to undertake an internship that allows you to build upon your work at Carnegie Mellon and your previous experience. Your internship is an opportunity for you to challenge yourself and to stretch your management muscles, and it provides you with a strong platform for the job search in your second year of the program. Internships that fulfill all these criteria often come without any financial support. The MAM ISF was created in order to ease a bit of the financial burden, providing a limited amount of support to students undertaking internships in any arts management situation (international, domestic, for-profit or non-profit).

Average ISF Awards for 2004 and 2003 ranged from $3,000 to $3,500. Awards vary based on duration of the internships, the cost-of-living in internship locations, and whatever stipends or resources are provided by the internship host organization.

The ISF is administered through the Institute for the Management of Creative Enterprises (IMCE). Please contact the IMCE office for more information.

Public Service Career Opportunities Program (PSCOP)

The PSCOP program provides limited cash awards to eligible graduating MAM students who plan to work in the public or nonprofit sector. The award is based upon federal student loan indebtedness, commitment to public service, and academic performance. One-half of the total award is paid to recipients upon their acceptance of employment in an eligible position. The second half of the award is paid to recipients one year from the date of their graduation, provided they have remained employed in an eligible position since the first payment. Interested students must complete an application during the fall of their final year of enrollment. Any full-time graduating MAM student who borrows federal student loans while enrolled in the MAM program may apply. (Award amounts generally range from $1,000 to $5,000.)
