The centerpiece of the MAM Program is the full-time, two-year degree program, featuring a curriculum of 18 core courses, a summer internship and many elective opportunities within the Heinz School, College of Fine Arts and other colleges within Carnegie Mellon University.
There are, however, two other options that might be appropriate for you:
Three-Semester (12-Month) MAM Option
If you have three or more years of relevant professional work experience in a creative enterprise (or you meet the other conditions noted below), you are eligible to apply for the MAM Program's Three-Semester option (MAM3). For these students, there is no internship requirement and the MAM Program does not suggest an apprenticeship assignment. As a MAM3 student, you would begin your coursework in the Summer semester and continue taking courses through the following Spring semester. You would complete the degree requirements and graduate by May. Financial aid is available to MAM3 students.
In order to qualify for the MAM3 Option, applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria prior to enrolling in the program:
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional work experience in a creative enterprise
- Completed a Peace Corps assignment
- Completed the CORO Fellows program
If you can take one year "off work" - or secure a leave of absence from your current position - the MAM3 option may be just right for you.
Part-Time Option
If you are a resident of Western Pennsylvania and currently employed, you may wish to consider applying to the MAM Program as a part-time student. Taking two or three courses per semester, part-time students can fulfill the degree requirements in three to five year. Financial aid is available to part-time MAM students.
